CPD is a commitment by members to continually update their skills and knowledge in order to remain professionally competent and achieve their true potential.

This approach emphasises;

  • continuing, because learning never ceases, regardless of age or seniority;
  • professional, because it is focused on professional competence in a professional role; and
  • concerned with development, because the goal is to improve personal performance and enhance career progression, which arguably is much wider than just formal training courses.

Therefore the CPD events will be conducted on themes of;

  • Innovative technologies pertaining to architecture,
  • Architectural profession – Continuing professional aspects such as liabilities, legal implications, responsibilities and due processes,
  • Architectural profession – Evolving current local or global events that may have implications on it. Expansion of architects services beyond design paradigm and
  • Comparison of the Sri Lankan case, with other global architectural association

Proposed Points System for CPD For Annual Assessment of the SLIA Corporate Membership

CPR CPD - Recognized Event
Events such as symposiums, conferences and workshops conducted by reputed Institutions
SLIA will maintain a list of such recognized events
(Members who wish to acquire points from such events may propose such events to be recognized)
SLIA may recognize from time to time such events and award points according to their assessed value to the profession
CPA CPD - Recognized Activity
Members may apply to recognize their activities such as;
• Architecture related publications,
• Recognition at national level for architecture related activities,
• Organizing and participation in built environment related activities etc. for CPD points
SLIA may recognize from time to time such events and award points according to their assessed value to the profession

It is proposed that;

  • each corporate member is to gain 12 Points per calendar year.
  • If defaulted for the first time members will receive a reminder of the same and they shall accrue the deficit points + 12 points during the next year.
  • If defaulted consecutively for the second year as well they will be reported to the ARB and their ARB registration may not be renewed for the following year.
  • Members with a corporate membership of 20 years shall be exempted from this compulsory point accumulation program.
  • The points can be gained by participating in any desired combination of the above flexible events list.
  • SLIA shall have a published rolling (keep adding events as they come) online list of events so members can plan their participation in advance.

  • Main CDP events shall be regularized to a particular month and week. It is proposed that they be held on the last Thursday of the selected month.
  • Members have to login to participate in online events. SLIA will record the login / logout as the participation record.
